The project contains three parts: school workshops with the French artist Marc Johnson, outdoor film screenings and round tables on the Plage du Prophète, interactive interventions with school students directed by the artist (with an outdoor theater performance at the Théâtre Sylvain) in collaboration with the Institut Pythéas.
Théâtre Corallien is a performance led by children from the Malmousque village in Marseille following a series of writing workshops organized by Marc Johnson, a French visual artist in collaboration with ARTPORT_making waves and the École de la Roseraie. The main theme addressed is the conservation of the Ocean. The event takes place at the Théâtre Sylvain. The performance and the interdisciplinary project are connected with an event at the Plage du Prophète as part of Surfrider Foundation’s Cine’ma Plage with film screenings (WE ARE OCEAN Berlin by Lisa Rave and the film programming WE ARE OCEAN with eight short films by internationally renowned artists) and an interdisciplinary roundtable discussion with artists, ocean scientists and other stakeholders in the context of the ocean. The project, curated by Julia Moritz and Anne-Marie Melster, is part of the international program ARTPORT_WE ARE OCEAN which will continue at the IUCN World Congress in January 2021 in Marseille and is an official project of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
A proposal by the ARTPORT_making waves in collaboration and partnership with the Institut Pythéas, Mairie du 7e arrondissement, Surfrider Foundation and the Office de la Mer.
