Annie Bascoul draws her inspiration from the plant kingdom, decorative arts, fine arts and fashion. She plays with 18th century classical patterns and integrate them into monumental and yet aerial compositions, that visitors are invited to cross. Other installations present “dresses”, fitted floor-standing or suspended, made of natural, organic and artificial materials thats characteristics allow the artist to suggest the idea of a body. The artist has forged her own calligraphy, which she declines in embroidery, lead pencil, iron or brass wire.
Her creations result from a technical manufacturing process research, nourished by but also freed from traditional knowledge. They suggest the intangible and universal link between Nature and Man.
The programming of Château Borély shed lights on the way we look at history of art, the confrontation between the past and the living. This exhibition is conceived as part of this approach.
