A monumental installation which questions the concept of virtual water in the garden of the Aygalades waterfall
Below the City of Arts in public spaces, on a plot of 2000 square meters, is nestled a nine-meter-high waterfall. Since 2016, a professional integration project for the development of the natural heritage of the site has re-enchanted the place, notably by creating a Mediterranean garden. The Jardin de la cascade des Aygalades is welcoming in 2020 a new monumental structure proposed by Sud Side : NORIA, a 6-meter-high poetic and sound machine. This monumental lumino-kinetic machine device aims at questioning the concept of virtual water. This installation project experiments with the public an artistic concept reconstituted in architectural form. NORIA is part of a series of artistic installations that engages public awareness on the ecological issues raised by the site.
A proposal by Sud Side and the Association pour la cité des arts de la rue as part of a professional integration project co-produced by Lieux publics, European and National Center for Artistic Creation in Public Space.
Conception and creation: Alain Arraez and Matthieu Audejean, artists from Sud Side workshops. Sound creation : Christophe Modica, sound designer.
