The project presents a living archive of the interdisciplinary workshops run by Ilana Salama Ortar in Marseille with women from the Cours Belsunce; an emblematic crossroad of the city and its history, with a long history migration. Elderly migrant women are even less visible in public space, both as aging women and as migrants. The aim of the project was to offer a space for different narratives as well as an alternative form of visibility/audibility. During the workshops, women were able to work on the imaginary, identity, the body as a symbolic vehicle for memory, through painting, sculpture, performance, discussion and writing.
The project aims at offering a visible experimentation plateforme to other cities in peculiar position, in order to build better social integration and an awareness of individuality; which, ethically speaking, is a notion that resonates with freedom.
