In 2020, inequalities between female and male artists prevail in the field of visual arts regardless of artistic practices, to degrees that remain “catastrophic” – no country is exemplary on the subject. Looking at this global movement in artistic creation in favour of a more representative environment for women artists, Contemporaines, – an association for the promotion and support of women artists in France – and Voiture 14, – an exhibition space dedicated to emerging creation in Marseille – are partnering to initiate a dynamic event around the fundamental question: “What place for women artists in the 21st century?”
The program of talks and performances explores the notion of “expansion” by mixing artists, theorists and actors of the French and international contemporary art scene in order to (re)think collectively a more inclusive trajectory.
