1/ Thirteen Aegises of Art : In a group exhibition, 13 international artists (painters, sculptors, videographers, composers, photographers) pay tribute to the heroism of Varian Fry, an American who saved 2,000 people from Nazism in Marseille, including eminent intellectual figures and artists of the 20th century. Each artist will honor one of Fry’s “protégés”, such as Hannah Arendt, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst… New artworks will be exhibited in the gallery space and garden with sound installations, and a video installation in the annex.
2/ The Nouveau Jeu de Marseille : 7 Marseille artists reinvent the famous deck of cards that the Surrealists, protected by Varian Fry, had drawn while hiding at the Villa Air-Bel, hoping for their visas. The original drawings of these new cards, portraying themes pertinent to 2020, will be displayed to the public.
