Real Utopias is conceived around works where the common thread is the imagination of a place that has not been constructed yet, utopia – ū and tópos, a place that does not exist – where other worlds are imagined. All these imaginary constructions participate in transformation of reality. What is concretely possible is not fixed independently of our imagination, but is shaped by our visions. Paintings, video, drawings, multimedia works and sculptures will reveal the common aspirations and experimental approach of different generations of artists who imagine new ways of occupying space, be it physical, imaginary or corporeal. The works on display focus on the challenges of our society in perpetual redefinition: borders, migration, ecology, the utopia of the body as a coexisting place for different cultural identities.
Real Utopias explores the contradictory movement as a starting point of all utopian impulses, which is the possibility and impossibility of a new relationship to the world. Leaving pure contemplation behind, utopia therefore becomes a driving force that pushes us to action and confrontation with reality in order to imagine new paths.
