Ymane Fakhir demonstrates a recurring interest in cultural identity, family memory, and social intricacies, including questions such as the place of women or biculturality. In her work, she conducts long-term investigations that engage her in social relationships with the people she contacts. By approaching the famous housing project La Castellane without preconceptions, Ymane Fakhir has freed herself from the media prism that presents it as an impoverished ghetto reduced to drug trafficking. Having rejected this morbid portrayal, the artist reminds us that the residents, drug dealers, families, social workers, teachers, and police officers all harbor a kaleidoscope of realities. Yet, unless there is an awareness that they are, by nature, subjective, there is the inevitable risk of a retreat behind invisible barriers where all words remain unheard. A vicious circle that leads to isolation, and isolation to the impossibility of seeing. As We Go Along evokes the way we move forward with uncertainty, by trial and error, but courageously.
